What to Expect from Your First House Cleaning

If you have never used a cleaning service, the unknowns are usually what hold people back rather than the price. Do I need to be there? Do I need to tidy first? What if they do not do it the way I would? Here is exactly how a first visit goes.

Before the day: the estimate

We ask about your home — bedrooms, bathrooms, pets, roughly when it was last professionally cleaned, and what you want prioritised. From that we give you a price and tell you which service fits, including when the honest answer is the less expensive one.

There is no visit fee and no obligation. If the number does not work for you, that is a perfectly fine place to stop.

Access: you do not need to be home

Most of our clients are at work during the visit. We agree access with you in advance — a key, a code, a lockbox, whatever you are comfortable with — and the home is treated exactly the same whether you are there or not.

If you would rather be home for the first one, that is common too. Plenty of people want to meet the team once and then never think about it again.

What to do beforehand (almost nothing)

You do not need to clean before the cleaners arrive. Two things genuinely help:

  • Clear the surfaces you want cleaned. Every item on a counter has to be lifted, cleaned around and replaced. Clearing them means more of the visit goes into cleaning.
  • Tell us what matters most to you. If the kitchen is the room you care about, say so. We would rather know than guess.

Also worth mentioning: anything fragile or valuable you would prefer we leave alone, and anything in the home that needs particular care.

Pets

Tell us about them when you book. We are a pet-friendly company and we use pet-safe products, but we also want to know whether a dog should stay in a particular room, whether a cat bolts for open doors, and whether anyone is nervous around strangers.

During the visit

The team arrives with everything needed — products, supplies and equipment. You do not provide anything.

The first visit usually takes longer than the ones that follow. Part of that is learning the home; part is that first visits often include catch-up work that a maintained home does not need. We will tell you the expected window when we confirm the booking.

When you walk back in

This is the part that matters to us. Not simply that the cleaning is finished, but how the home feels when you open the door — the fresh scent, the arranged towels, the finishing touches that were not strictly required but change the experience of coming back.

That is what we mean by The Sparkling Home Experience.

If something is not right

Tell us within 24 hours and we gladly return to make it right. No argument and no invoice. First visits are also when preferences surface — you may find you want the guest room skipped and more attention on the laundry. Say so, and it becomes part of how your home is cleaned from then on.

After the first visit

There is no obligation to schedule anything. If you do want recurring service, we agree a frequency that fits your household, and we keep the same team on your home wherever we can, because a team that knows your house does a better job of it.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the first cleaning take?

Longer than later visits, because the team is learning the home and often catching up on work a maintained home does not need. We give you the expected window when we confirm.

Do I tip?

It is never expected. Some clients do and it is always appreciated, but nobody will think twice if you do not.

What if I need to cancel?

Let us know as early as you can. Our cancellation policy has the details.

Will the same team come back?

We make every effort to keep the same professionals on your home for recurring bookings. We cannot promise it every single week, but consistency is what we aim for.
