Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Utah Renters

Cleaning is the most common reason deposits get reduced, and it is the easiest one to avoid. Landlords and property managers are not judging your housekeeping — they are comparing the property against the condition report from the day you moved in. This checklist is built around what actually gets inspected.
Clean in this order, not room by room
Move-out cleaning works differently from normal cleaning, because the house is empty. Everything that furniture used to hide is now visible and in scope. Work top to bottom and leave the floors for last, or you will clean them twice.
Kitchen — where most deposits are lost
- Inside the oven, including the racks and the glass door. This is the single most frequently cited item.
- Inside and behind the fridge, defrosted, with the seals wiped and the drip tray checked.
- Range hood and filter — grease on the filter is an easy deduction to justify.
- Inside every cabinet and drawer, including the crumbs in the corners.
- Cabinet fronts, especially the ones nearest the stove, where a film builds up.
- Dishwasher, including the filter at the bottom.
- Sink and tap, including limescale around the base.
Bathrooms
- Grout lines and any mildew in the shower corners
- Shower door tracks and glass, including hard-water marks
- Toilet, including the base and the bolt caps behind it
- Extractor fan cover
- Mirror, cabinet interiors and the underside of the vanity
- Limescale on taps and shower heads
Everywhere else
- Baseboards throughout — visible now that the furniture is gone
- Walls: scuff marks, and the spots where furniture rested
- Light switches, door handles and door frames
- Inside all closets, including shelves and rails
- Windows, sills and tracks
- Vents and ceiling fans
- Light fixtures, including dead insects in the covers
- Floors last, vacuumed then mopped, corners included
Three things people forget every single time
- The garage. Oil marks on the floor and cobwebs in the corners are both routinely noted.
- Behind the washer and dryer. Lint and dust collect there for years and the space is never seen until moving day.
- The patio or balcony. Outdoor space is part of the property and gets inspected with everything else.
Photograph everything when you finish
Date-stamped photos of every room, taken after the clean and before you hand back the keys, settle most disputes before they start. Include the oven interior, the fridge interior and the floors. It takes five minutes and it is the cheapest insurance available.
When it makes sense to hand this over
Move-out week is already full: the movers, the utilities, the address changes, the keys. A full move-out clean on an empty property is a long day of work, and it lands exactly when you have the least time and energy for it.
Our Move-In and Move-Out Cleaning is built for handover day, and it covers the list above. We work across Davis, Weber, Salt Lake, Utah, Summit and Morgan counties. Ask for a free estimate and tell us your handover date.
Frequently asked questions
Should the property be empty before you clean?
Ideally yes. An empty property can be cleaned completely, and nothing has to be worked around or moved twice.
How far in advance should I book?
As early as you know your handover date. End of month fills up quickly, because that is when most tenancies end.
Can you clean the day before handover?
Yes, and that is usually the best timing. The property stays empty overnight and is inspected in the condition we left it.
